SpiritualPreparation for Rosh Ha’Shanah – PSALM 91:1-2
Psalm 91:1-2 Study
Day 2 = Sundown, Monday August 25th through Sundown, Tuesday August 26th
Psalm 91 KJV
The King is in the Field, ready to visit and dwell with you. But, as always the enemy is trying to figure out how to come at you or against you and pull you out of the Presence of GOD.
But that old tired tactic is not going to work this month!
When the Lion roars it can be heard for up to 5 miles. The very sound of his voice reaches up to 114 decibels. The cords of his throat are specifically designed for loud and clear communication which allows him to define his territory and locate pride members over long distances..
In other words, GOD’s Voice has gone out before You… The enemy knows He is in the Field and understands just what that means.
This Month, operate every day knowing that the King is abiding in YOUR Territory! GOD is defining Your Territory as His Territory! Amen.
In the Month of Elul, we’re taking advantage of the Presence of the King of Kings! Amen. The enemy can’t accuse you right now! It’s best to keep a minimum, 5 mile perimeter away from you! Lest, GOD move upon him quickly!
Halleluyah!
With that in mind, we’re going to use our time wisely and learn some things about Psalm 91, so that we can increase the decibel level of our voice in prayer!
Elul gives us an opportunity that only comes around every 11 months…
From the first time we meet David on the pages of scripture, we soon discover that he has the anointing to cast out demonic power with his praise and worship! David, the Psalmist is transferring that ability to us in the Book of Psalms. He is teaching his son Solomon and all the children of Israel, how he was able to do it!
He is teaching us, how he did it!
The King has cleared the field for you. Let’s behave ourselves wisely, (Ps 101:2) and learn what the Psalmist was doing in his praise!
Catch Up to the Day 1 Opportunity!

Day 2 = Sundown, Monday August 25th through Sundown, Tuesday August 26th
Psalm 27 KJV
27 The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
4 One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in his temple.
5 For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
6 And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in his tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8 When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
9 Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
10 When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
11 Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
12 Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
13 I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
14 Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.

“…Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.” ISAIAH 45:11
It’s time to make your declarations known to GOD! Don’t tell yourself, “He knows my heart.” While that’s true, the request is for you to ask. Let’s follow the instructions. There are many spiritual and supernatural reasons for following His Process, rather than our own reasonings.
Elul is the time to prepare for the Biblical New Year – which begins on Rosh Ha’Shanah…. Let’s not miss this opportunity to enter in this Season of GOD.
I will be adding more information as we go through this month of Elul, so be on alert so that we can keep up with this move of GOD.

Have you ever prayed at the shores of the sea and beheld the waves rise and fall at the sound and rhythm of your voice in prayer, rising higher, reaching farther than the season allows?
Have you ever stood at the shores of the sand and spoke into the atmosphere and watched as doves flew out of the waves of the water, as if being born by the words as you prayed, and come streaming in flight over head?
Have you prayed to pull down strongholds and saw the moon descend at your command?
Have you stood in the sides of midnight and commanded storms to cease and winds to bow and witnessed the response within minutes?
Have you commanded the rain to fall in a drought and witnessed the trees and plant life restored?
Have you commanded attacks on children and elders to cease and desist, and witnessed the fruit of your prayer within days?
Have you carried unborn babes through to birth as a midwife in prayer and seen them survive the dread and doubt of the decrees that block destiny?
These are a few examples of how the Holy Spirit can opt to train you in prayer.
If you have not experienced these or similar training sessions yet… then know, that you are well able to take the territory in Jesus Name.
There is a specific region, a territory assigned to each of us in prayer. There is an expanse in which faith and prayer, character, and consecration meet. A zone, if you will; a prophetic grid that you can occupy in which all things are possible. A place where the word flows out of you in heights that allows your spirit free to soar and flesh has no sound or presence or being… finally flesh is silent, submitted and still and the spirit is in control
This is the principality, power and dominion of prayer… this can be our dwelling place in prayer.
An Answer for a Torah Scholar
You asked me a very good question Scholar, and I want to take a moment and answer you here…
Let me respond to your question by sharing a short message first because your question is connected with a previous teaching that I presented entitled, Man is a Speaking Spirit.
GOD moves the heart of man. Yes, certainly non-believers can be moved to obey GODs voice too. Especially on behalf of the Righteous, i.e. those that believe in GOD. GOD will /can cause them to obey in order to protect His People. Our own spiritual condition has a great deal to do with the outcomes of our prayers.
Case in Point: GOD gave Pharoah space & time to repent and acknowledge Him but Pharaoh didn’t. So eventually, GOD hardened his heart. Once that occurred, even if Pharaoh had changed his mind and wanted to accept the knowledge of GOD, he was not going to be able to. The clock was ticking on his obedience and he just ran out of time. Pharoah absolutely did not fear GOD, which caused him to ignore all signs and warnings, even those presented to him in the flesh.
Bottom line, a person needs spiritual discernment. But you can not have that and be so carnally minded too. One cancels out the other. We decide to let our spirit have dominion over our flesh, or our flesh to have dominion over our spirit. It’s a choice. God is Spirit, and those that serve Him must operate in the spirit. We can care for our spirit and allow it to arise, or not. There’s a choice to be made in the matter.
But How Do You Care for Your Spirit?
We care for our spirit through prayer. As we cultivate a prayer life, we cultivate our relationship with GOD. Prayer is truly a Garden of Eden Assignment.
Prayer to me, is the utmost sign you can possess of trusting GOD. Prayer is not just a casual or causal-initiated experience. Prayer is meant to be a lifestyle. Prayer is mankind allowing his/her spirit to speak. Prayer is like a gift, that belongs only to the Most Faithful. By “Most” I mean, only to the Faithful that wields it. I qualify that statement knowing, that not all “believers” will pursue, possess or desire a lifestyle of prayer. Prayer is simply seen as too burdensome, too demanding, too inconvenient for some. Too much of a mystery, too misunderstood, too much work for others.
The reason our spirits can be so much weaker than our flesh is simple. We care for the flesh far more than we care for our spirit. The flesh has needs and desires that are constantly fed and attended to. The spirit on the other hand, is nearly starved by far too many “believers”. How do we show care for our spirit? One day, hopefully, we will get to that in class, but for now the foundational answer I give to you, is to nurture our spirits with prayer.
Our spirits are nurtured by the anointing. What draws the anointing? Of course, humility, truth, love, kindness, mercy, tenderness, patience, every fruit of the spirit, etc. These are character traits of holiness. But what keeps these spiritual qualities rich and vibrant, alive and effective?
The Maintenance Program is Called Prayer.
Agreed, walking in the character and nature of these spiritual traits is quite the daily challenge, i.e. the need for prayer. Prayer is about submitting yourself to the LORD and judging yourself. One day soon, I trust, we will be able to walk through a journey in the word, on prayer, from a torah perspective, and together with the class, you shall see for yourself (more in depth) what I am saying right here.
I made the statement to you that, I have come to believe that the people of GOD are more easily identified because they respond to prayer. I think this is the ‘Next Millenium Marker’ given to the people of GOD to be able to discern each other spiritually. Not because we pray with each other, together out loud… and i”ve heard you pray. Prayer will be worn as a garment, that only the spiritually discerning can see. This will be what identifies us and how we identify each other.
Prayer is not just our weapon, prayer is our strongest and most valuable asset. The people of GOD may not be able to go to someone directly, to obtain what is needful…. for multiple reasons, but they have access to an intermediary. He speaks on our behalf and He has proven to move the hearts of man.
In your question, you also asked about, GOD moving the unbeliever’s heart through prayer. To this, I say, “I absolutely depend on it.”
Nonbelievers can be moved to obey GOD’s voice too. Especially on behalf of the Righteous. GOD will /can cause them to obey to protect His People. It depends on His Long term plans. What we must recognize is, that in our perception it could look like nothing is happening at all. Several times, we can misread a situation as unanswered prayer. Things can often appear as if they are getting worse. Example: GOD gave Pharoah space & time to repent and acknowledge Him but he didn’t. So GOD hardened his heart. Now, even if He wanted to obey, He couldn’t. In the meantime, the situation appeared to some in Israel as if the situation was getting worse for them, but it was only getting better.Things became increasingly worse for Pharaoh, and he brought his disobedience to the door of the people. Pharoah did not require discernment or a prayer life, all he had to do was recognize and show reverence for GOD. The people and the land could have been blessed without him having one iota of a prayer life or one ounce of discernment, if he had just caught the revelation of who GOD is had been apprehended.
Bottom Line, a Person Needs Discernment.
Not everyone has it. But I do know how the person who desires a closer relationship with GOD can find it. GOD draws close to those who draw closer to Him. We can do that through prayer and character refinement. This doesn’t require any extra work. A dedicated, consecrated prayer life… greatly helps to refine character, all by itself. So that makes it easy.
Praying in the Spirit like a Samurai Warrior…
Not too long ago, I was telling a friend of mine that her resume should no longer say, Prayer Warrior. It really doesn’t suit her. At one time perhaps, but not any longer.
This is how I see it. Everyone who is disciplined with expertise in their field moves like that person you see in the park, practicing tai chi. Smooth, deliberate, controlled, harnessed in power, with a skilled and disciplined spirit. The wisdom of experience is in every movement and spatial awareness is absolute. We must have these qualities in prayer.
DID YOU KNOW… There were Christian Samurai who represented Christ on the battlefield and in life. Yet, in order to protect their families from persecution, they hid their spiritual identities from the public, wearing the engraved emblem of Christ on the Cross in the hilt of their swords,
The Warrior for GOD is like this. They have relationship, they know who they are in life and they know who they are in prayer. They are constantly aware of their surroundings, their spirit is keen and perceptive. Mastery of their art is essential to life. They see movement in their mind’s eye. They are one with the sword. Every movement is perfected, their sword is a precision instrument. How equipped and skilled would you like to become in the Word of GOD?
Can you think of any skill set in which the person who has mastered their art, moves about haphazardly, disconnected, without control, power or discipline? I think not. They would only hurt themselves or someone else they care about.
Those skilled in their craft do not easily relinquish the time they have in applying themselves to their passion. Their dedication unto death (as Paul would say) is complete. I used the example of the Samurai because partly due to the fact that they are renowned for their faithfulness in service, their skill in battle and their oath to defend and protect the house they served. Rightfully so, these should be the character traits of the servants of GOD, who wield the sword of the spirit. It will always be, that our humility, faithfulness and teachable, yielded spirit, will open up treasure houses of wisdom, insight, vision, discernment, in our area of expertise.
You have engaged in the most important discipline or branch of knowledge, that you could possibly dedicate yourself to in the earth realm. You are charged with the protection, care and handling of souls. God is the ultimate caregiver, but you are the ambassador that He has chosen to allow His Power to flow through, for the benefit and blessing of His People. You are the vessel of choice.
Among us, there are those, that possess the bearing of a Samurai in prayer. They have moved beyond the restrictions and limitations of prayer warriors, to become humble shepherds and farmers in the natural… but when called to battle for the kingdom of Heaven, country and home… the Word of GOD is their weapon of choice and with it, they are precision marksmen in the spirit realm.
Prayer Must Be or Become Our Sword, Our Weapon of Choice.
It’s knowing how to use the Word of GOD in prayer and how to speak into the atmosphere that separates the Warriors of GOD. A lifestyle of Prayer is like living the life of a warrior in excellence…Always in training, always in contact with the King and the events of the realm. A consecration to prayer is like keeping in contact with the King, knowing the events of the realm, demanding constant continuous practice using the sword of faith. Perfecting movements. Training the body to hone our skill with grace and finesse.
We will not always be perfect or measure up in man’s eyes. But that should never dissuade us to fight the good fight of faith. The Master of Prayer is continually listening to their weapon, which is the Word. They are separated and consecrated to a lifestyle of study, meditation, dedication to a higher cause, intimately engaged in every aspect of the Word. Striving toward character refinement every day, pursuing justice, love and resisting all temptation toward the deadly pull of wicked character traits, such as loshon hara, evil speech. We can not expect to fight with the Word, while simultaneously using our tongues to lash out, gossip, lie, murmur or complain. These are not our weapons.
As intimately as a Samurai knows their own sword, we should come to know ourselves and the sword of the spirit.
Our hope rest in knowing this Word, which must become so fine-tuned in our spirit through relationship with GOD, that there is “no friction in the flow.” Our weapons are mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. They allow us to approach the battlefield with ease, confidence, and full of praise. We are well prepared and honored to represent the King of Kings. Knowing that we have fought this battle many times before in the spirit, in preparation for the day of victory, today or any day.
Like David, we know our weapons, and we know the armor that we must wear into the battle.
David was like a Samurai Warrior of Prayer. He knew the enemy, he knew himself, he knew GOD, as if he was the firstborn of GOD. David knew GOD as a son, not a friend, not a distant relative, and definitely not as a lower-level novice in training on the battlefield. David made the calculations required before going out to battle, his strategy to, wield all the weapons of GOD’s Words, available to him in the power of prayer.
This is the deposit of breath that was spoken into you, from your beginning. From the first time you ever heard GOD’s Word. This is what you were prepared to do, called to do, from the time you were conceived in your mother’s womb. You are the answer GOD has sent into the earth, a speaking spirit, with the power to decree and declare a thing… Dedicate and elevate yourself to prayer like an artisan, who knows no other way better than the Word...

Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
The Word of GOD is Just Mathematically Perfect! Halleluyah!
Psalm 19:7-11
7 The WORD of the Lord is perfect, muh-shee-vaht(returning the soul back toward) GOD: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the puh-thee; the openminded, the teachable, (an upright, honest and humble person without guile or deceit). *See note below
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11 Moreover by them is thy servant neez-har(taught, trained up and sent out as light): and in keeping of them there is great reward.
Keep my commandments, and live; and My (Word) as the apple of thine eye.
Amen.
*Note: Psalm 19:7 traditionally reads, “…making wise the simple.” However, the use of the word simple is problematic because it misleads the reader as to the intent of the message and let’s face it, it implies that those who listen to GOD are simpleminded, right?
This is a really good example of reading an iron age text with a 21st century understanding of the word, “simple.” Simple, has changed over time….
being simple:
c. 1200, simple was used at times in terms of someone who was, “free from duplicity, upright, guileless; blameless, innocently harmless,”
In the late 14c., simple implied “an innocent or a guileless person; a humble or modest person,” (etomologyonline.com)
As times changed and moved on people simply became meaner (so filled with self) and began to use the term disparagingly, which is still something some people do.
As far as I can tell, the critical tone began to emerge around the 12th century and it seems that around 1500 we had totally flipped the meaning around. In KJV Old English, I don’t get the sense that they were using it in order to slight the masses who believed in GOD. It appears to me that simple was once a beautiful word and they desired to preserve it.
Let’s take comfort in knowing that there was once a time when being simple was expressed as a virtue and today, we are reading the original meaning back into the message. Amen.
It’s your humility, your kindness, your modesty and guileless nature that draws you to the attention of the Most High GOD. It’s your teachableness, and excellent spirit that elevates you and draws you to Your Beloved… and transforms you into being the Apple of His Eye!
May you delight and abound in the apples and honey of Rosh Ha’ Shana, 5785
The Garden of GOD is also known as an Orchard. In Hebrew the word for “orchard” is pardes, פַּרְדֵּס pardēs.
In the study of Torah, the Word itself is considered as the Garden of GOD. In order to pass through this garden safely, tasting the fruit which it possesses and exiting the garden/orchard in safety requires great skill, in wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
The ability to come out of the orchard with the full Counsel of GOD is the desired result. Only a few are able to emerge from the Garden.
The objective is to partake of the fruit of the garden and after having eaten of its fruit, you become skilled in the Wisdom of GOD. Or the worst can happen, you could become lost inside the garden, getting turned around or twisted up in rabbit trails.
And as the story goes….
There are some go insane. They get all tangled up in the trees, trying to consume wisdom that they can not understand, or articulate.
Some harm to themselves in the Garden. Harm can be done in a number of ways. Some start out zealous for knowledge, but not be able to sustain such things as the rigors of study, the demands of consecration, prayer, fasting, or simply the lifestyle of such a disciple.
Many begin with curiosity in the Word, but lack the attention span or self discipline it requires in order to continue. Some just have no real intention of following its precepts, but they love the sensationalism or the “knowledge hits” the Word provides.
The problem this personality type faces is, that once they possess the knowledge they sought, they are responsible for it. Harm can be done by turning away through apathy, doubt, disobedience, etc. Like I said, there are a number of ways to do spiritual harm to ourselves.
Only a few actually achieve their goal, and emerge with the highest levels of wisdom. These few possess the character traits that GOD chooses!
And so we learn in Chagigah 14b
The Sages taught:Four entered the orchard (The Garden of GOD), i.e., they dealt with the loftiest Secrets of Torah, and they are as follows:
Four Rabbi’s enter the orchard, aka, The Garden of God. Ben Azzai; and ben Zoma; Aḥer, the other, a name for Elisha ben Avuya; and Rabbi Akiva.
Rabbi Akiva, the senior among them, said: When, upon your arrival in the upper worlds, you reach pure marble stones, do not say: Water, water, although they appear to be water, because it is stated: “He who speaks falsehood shall not be established before My eyes” (Psalms 101:7).
Pure marble stones shine like glistening water, in the right setting (a garden) you may think you are seeing a puddle or stream of water.
Remember, the Rabbi’s are warned not to cry out, “Water, Water!” An important principle to know about the torah because speaking falsehoods will never cause one to be established in the things of GOD. The Rabbi’s want to ascend to higher realms of wisdom.. so speaking falsehoods, even about the little things in life, will them off (and us too!) from the higher realms.
Then…. The Gemara proceeds to relate what happened to each of them:
Ben Azzai glimpsed at the Divine Presence and died. And with regard to him the verse states: “Precious in the eyes of the Lord is the death of His pious ones”(Psalms 116:15).
Ben Zoma glimpsed at the Divine Presence and was harmed, i.e., he lost his mind. And with regard to him the verse states: “Have you found honey? Eat as much as is sufficient for you, lest you become full from it and vomit it”(Proverbs 25:16).
Acḥer chopped down the shoots of saplings.
Rabbi Akiva came out safely.
Rashi’s Analysis of The Events: (*I elaborate)
Rashi says Rabbi Azzai dies from looking at the Divine Presence.
Ben Zoma’s harm was in losing his sanity. This is a very strong statement by Rashi.
*He wanted to enter the higher worlds, i.e. higher realms and dimensions of torah study, but he could not attain it. He completely lost his mind.
Acher’s “chopping down the saplings” is telling us that he chopped away at the Word of GOD, cutting it down into pieces.
*He corrupted the Word in such a way, that no one he taught gained anything from it. They couldn’t elevate. The couldn’t protect themselves or others. They were unable to piece together any insight, knowledge or wisdom. The Word of GOD was unrecognizable from its true form. The people he taught had no power, no strength, no authority in the Word they tried to speak. Utterly powerless when it really mattered.
Acher means “The Other One.” His identity is uncertain which is why he is only remembered as Acher.
*Just like he “chopped up the Word”, so too is his identity one of many possibilities. As some of you have seen in class, the Torah is known for dropping letters from a name. It appears he lost every letter, until he simply became known as, “The Other One.” In the end, Acher lost his faith.
Akiva, in contrast to everyone else, i.e., the other three, became the leading Rabbinic figure of the time.
*Rabbi Akiva, came out whole… peacefully, in total shalom.
Lessons obtained in the Garden of GOD are terrific for understanding the potential outcomes and serious responsibility that we may have when delving into the deeper things of GOD. But, there’s another level of meaning that I want to remind you of that will help you navigate the Garden of GOD.
Meet You in the Garden of GOD and we’ll come out together with shalom!
