IS THE TRINITY TRUE?  (Part 0.12) The Person and Power of the Holy Spirit

Summarizing the key concepts presented in this series about the Trinity and the Holy Spirit .

This is a self-paced course. For maximum benefit please take the time to read all the scriptures listed under their various categories to observe and learn the patterns they contain.

Please do not race through.

While this is just the beginning of showing you the Presence and Power of the Holy Spirit in His Triune Nature with GOD. The goal (and my hope) is that this summary will help answer any questions that may still exist about the Holy Spirits function within the trinity, but that it has helped untangle any doubts or threads of misinformation.

You will be presented with a similar series of material on the Son of Man/Son of GOD. Make your foundation strong before moving on.

Take your time. Note the connections between the Hebrew scripture and the New Testament on the Holy Spirit. Ask questions.

Enjoy!

Since the beginning of this study on the trinity, you have been examining multiple texts through the framework or lens of intertextuality, developing a very essential skillset in the study of Biblical texts. This is how we allow scripture to speak for itself, without superimposing our personal ideas, thoughts and self made theologies upon the text.

Scripture will interpret Scripture.

Always look for the Patterns.

Part 0.12 of this series will be an ongoing work in progress. As we build upon our knowledge of how the Holy Spirit moves and operates in the earth, I will use Part 0.12 of this series to summarizes the work.

Please check back regularly for updates to this post, as it will undergo many revisions and updates.

How to Read the Bullet Points:

  • The solid circular bullet point identifies scriptures covered in this series.
    • The white bullet point provides additional scriptural supports for the attributes of the Holy Spirit or supporting notations of 1st bullet point.
      • The square bullet point provides supporting notations or co-equality citations.

Revisiting The Things You Have Heard…

The Personhood of the Holy Spirit

  • YHVH ELOHIM is a person AND He has a Spirit – which operates separate and apart from Him, fulfilling the Purposes and Plans of GOD. In Scripture, the Holy Spirit shows us in the following descriptions…
  • John 16:13-15, Ezek 2:2,
    • The Spirit of Elohim is a Teacher, John 14:26, 16:13, Luke 12:12; Matt 10:20, Mark 13:11
    • The Spirit of Elohim is an Intercessor for us, Romans 8:26
  • Spirit of God (ruach Elohim) — e.g., Genesis 1:2, Job 33:4
  • Spirit of the Lord (ruach YHWH) — e.g., Isaiah 42:1, Joel 2:28
  • Holy Spirit (ruach haqodesh) – e.g., Ps 51:11, Isa 63:10-11

You have seen multiple scriptural evidences that the Spirit of GOD (aka ruach elohim, ruach YHVH, ruach kodsho), as spoken of by the Word of GOD is presented with personhood; He moves, acts and intervenes on behalf of GOD, speaks on behalf of GOD.

The Name Elohim- ALL BY ITSELF – means MORE than One!

You have seen that ELOHIM is a masculine plural pronoun. The Name by which GOD first introduces Himself to us on the pages of scripture tells us that He is…

The Spirit of Elohim Empowers Us

  • Ezek 36:27, 37:1, 14, Isa 61:1,

Elohim Speaks of His Spirit with Personal Possession

  • Isa 30:1, Isa 63:10, Psalm 51:11, 104:30, 139:7, Proverbs 1:23. Job 26:13

Elohim and His Spirit are One; They Work Together

  • Isa 48:16,
    • John 14:1,
    • John 4:24; GOD is Spirit
    • John 4:24 ESV, NIV, NLT, NKJV, NASB, AMP, ISV
    • 2 Cor 3:17-18, likewise, Jesus and the Spirit are One (I’m jumping ahead). Paul is contrasting the Hebrew Scripture (OT) with the New Testament.

The Spirit of Elohim, He moves on behalf of Elohim

  • Genesis 1:1-2, Judges 13:25, 2 Chron 18:23,
  • Gen 1:1 In the beginning Elohim (God) created the heaven and the earth.
  • Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of Elohim moved upon the face of the waters.
    • The Spirit of Elohim, overpowers what is tohu-va-bohu (without form and void); chaos, darkness, confusion must bow.
    • Without the Spirit of Elohim, confusion, darkness and chaos will emerge.

The Holy Spirit Gives Us Evidence of Elohim

  • John 15:26
    • Acts 5:32, 1 Cor 12:3, 1 John 4:2
      • The ability to bear witness to GOD is evidence that the Holy Spirit abides in you.

The Spirit of GOD, He speaks on behalf of Elohim and must be obeyed.

  • 2 Chronicles 24:20, John 15:26, 16:13-15,
    • Acts 8:29; 13:2-4
      • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal in authority with Elohim.

Lying in the Presence of the Spirit of GOD, is the same as lying to Elohim Himself

  • Acts 5:3-4
    • Respect that is due Elohim is expected to be rendered to the Spirit of Elohim; co-equality

The Spirit of Elohim imparts Wisdom, Understanding and Knowledge; being filled with the Spirit of GOD gives us the ability to create…and do Great Works

  • Ex 31:1-5, Psalm 104:30,
    • 1 Cor 2:12, Judg 14:6, 15:14
      • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal with Elohim in the giving of wisdom…

The Spirit of Elohim Gives LIFE! (just like GOD)

  • Job 27:3, Job 33:4, Ezek 37:14,
    • Psalm 104:30, Job 34:14-15, John 6:63, 2 Cor 3:6, Titus 3:5,
    • Through the Power of the Holy Spirit Mary gave birth, Matt 1:18, Luke 1:35
      • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal with Elohim in the giving of life.

The Spirit of Elohim is the Spirit of Prophecy; GOD’s Spirit dwelling upon us is the Anointing to Prophecy.

  • 1 Sam 10:10, 10:20, 18:10, 19:20, 19:23, 2 Chron 15:1, Isa 61:1,
    • Luke 2:26, Acts 11:28, Acts 20:23, 21:4, 11, 1 Tim 4:1, 1 Cor 2:10
    • Numbers 11:25-26,
      • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal with Elohim activating prophetic gifts.

The Spirit of Elohim Dwells Upon a Person Because of the Anointing placed upon them by GOD.

  • 1 Samuel 16:13
    • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal with Elohim activating prophetic gifts.

The Spirit of Elohim restrains darkness, comforts, instructs, prevents enemy attacks, provides, guides, deposits insight and wisdom, gave them the pattern for the Tabernacle, i.e., gives us the patterns we need, commissions us for leadership

  • Gen 1:2, Ex 31:3, Num 24:2, 1 Sam 1:1, 10:7, 10, 19;20, 1 Chron 28:12, Isa 61:11, Dan 5:11, 14, Num 11:16-17, Judges 3:10, 6:34

The Spirit of the YHVH gives us rest.

  • Isaiah 63:10-14

The Spirit of the Elohim is the Spirit of Truth

  • John 14:16-17,
    • The Spirit of Elohim dwells in and with those, that belong to Elohim.
    • His Spirit, which is Truth, leads you into all truth; 15:26, 16:13
    • The Spirit of Elohim dwells within believers; John 14:26, 15:26
    • The Spirit of Truth does not abide in or with lying spirits, John 8:44
      • A lying spirit can not abide in the Presence of GOD

Jesus and the Spirit of Truth are One

  • John 14:6, Rom 8:9, 11, 1 Cor 3:16, 12:4-5,

The Spirit of GOD in us creates the desire to walk after Him – After His Spirit and not the flesh.

  • Rom 8:14, Gal 5:16-25
  • Walking after the Spirit of GOD is equivalent to Walking after GOD.
  • The Spirit of Elohim is co-equal with Elohim activating His prophetic gifts.

GOD BLESS,

(1). Do you see the Holy Spirit as the Second Person of the Trinity so far or does His Personhood and CO-Equal Power with GOD remain unclear, unseen and unconnected? (If not, re-read of Step 1- Part 0.03-0.11).

(2). Which 3 scriptures best defines the person and power of the Holy Spirit to you, so far? (Using the framework of scriptures in this post or submit your own scriptures confirming the Trinity)

(3) What is the single most factor or cause- per scripture– that can prevent someone from seeing, understanding, or having the knowledge of the Holy Spirit? (Ref: revisiting multiple post in this series should help you pinpoint scriptural supports for responding to this question, including this post).

RECAP: GENESIS CHAPTER ONE

Genesis 1:1-31 King James Version

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.

And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,

18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

That was simple right? Be certain that you took every step. This will ensure that as we build there will be no gaps in understanding!

2 thoughts on “IS THE TRINITY TRUE?  (Part 0.12) The Person and Power of the Holy Spirit”

  1. Where does the Holy Spirit fit in the Trinity?

The Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity fully God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and the Son. He is not merely a force or influence but a divine Person who speaks, teaches, guides, and empowers believers.

Three Scriptures that Define the Person of the Holy Spirit

    1. The Holy Spirit speaks and directs

The Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul… Acts 13:2
A force does not speak or commission; a person does.

    2. The Holy Spirit teaches

“The Helper, the Holy Spirit… He will teach you all things.” John 14:26
Jesus describes Him as a Teacher and Helper.

    3. The Holy Spirit is God

“You have lied to the Holy Spirit… You have not lied to men but to God.” Acts 5:3–4
Peter directly identifies lying to the Holy Spirit as lying to God.

What Prevents Someone from Understanding the Holy Spirit?

    1. Spiritual blindness or unbelief

“The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God.”1 Corinthians 2:14

    2. Hardness of heart

Persistent resistance to God’s truth can hinder understanding Hebrews 3:7-8.

    3. Grieving or resisting the Spirit

Ephesians 4:30 and Acts 7:51 show that people can resist His work and revelation.

Why Is the Word “Trinity” Not in the Bible?
What I found about this is that the word Trinity is a theological term developed later to summarize what Scripture teaches. While the word itself does not appear in the Bible, the doctrine is drawn from biblical revelation:

    One God Deuteronomy 6:4
The Father is God John 6:27
The Son is God John 1:1; John 20:28
The Holy Spirit is God Acts 5:3–4
All three are distinguished yet united Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14

    A key Trinity passage is:

Baptizing them in the name (singular) of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit Matthew 28:19

Notice Jesus says name (singular), not names (plural), while identifying three distinct Persons.

My conclusion is this based on those scriptures and research you have given us. There is adequate scriptural support to confidently say The Holy Spirit is fully God, the third Person of the Trinity. Scripture reveals Him as one who speaks, teaches, guides, and can be grieved. Once again, the term “Trinity” is not found in the Bible, but the reality of one God existing eternally as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is revealed throughout Scripture. That is the conclusion i believe the scriptures reveal.

    1. Absolutely! This is exactly why I am totally convinced when you present even a partial evidentiary case and low the people to see the pattern for themselves, they will see it and there is ‘No confusion.” The scripture provides us consistent, repetitive, undeniable evidence of the Holy Spirit operating in His own personhood and power fulfilling His own assignment in cooperation with GOD Himself. While a person can object to the terminology “trinity” you can’t unsee the fact that the Spirit of GOD is not an impersonal force, but through His own distinct personhood and presence He works with GOD – as part of the “US” spoken of in the Book of Genesis, i.e. “Let us make man.” GOD has been consistently attempting to communicate -from the beginning- His Triune Nature. If the Christian terminology of the “Trinity” is blocking anyone from seeing the truth, then I would ask them to select another term. Just do not allow terminology or denominationalism, keep you from receiving what the Word of GOD is saying, because you disagree on terms. You’re fighting the wrong battle when you do that. More importantly, you are limiting and distancing yourself from the one relationship that should mean the most… more than pride, more than denominationalism, more than being right in your own sight, more than anything. If GOD can not tell us who He is, without us over talking Him and telling Him who He can only be in our estimation, then we’re not listening or paying attention. You ladymalvo- are paying attention. You are allowing the word to speak for itself! This is why you are able to operate in the gifts of the Spirit. This is what we all need to be able to do- but rejecting the Spirit is rejecting the gifts! Then we complain as to why there is so much pain in the world, so much suffering, so much- this that or the other thing. We blame GOD. It’s not us- it’s not our unbelief, it’s GOD. and here’s what I think the funny part is – in all honestly, we are a stick necked stubborn rebellious people— left to our own devices- carnality rules our flesh. Is it so implausible that we require the Triune nature of GOD to even live! WE are more than a notion! And for reason that escape but a few, GOD has an eternal hope for us and will not give up on us. I hope as we continue in this endeavor of seeing the patterns that run throughout the scripture, allowing the text to come to the forefront and speak, many will break through all these barriers the world has set up to prevent us from receiving the fullness of GOD’s Word, that we will embrace GOD fully – take Him at His Word. After nearly two thousand years since Christ, we should be further along in our ability to walk in the Anointing, don’t you think? (I’m posing this question to the world). Why then are we stuck? Could it be that we are focus on banned battles?
