WOMEN WERE GIVEN THE TORAH FIRST

Course: Introduction to Torah- The Book of Exodus

For those students just recently completing our study on the Book of Exodus, I will be loading pages on information that we were unable to cover during the semester. There are more treasures to mine in this portion of scripture and as you know, I do not want you to miss them. At times, I will update class notes that you were sent. So please be careful to note the updates. Contact me if you have any questions. GOD Bless.

When G‑d instructed Moses to prepare the people of Israel to receive the Torah at Mount Sinai some 3,300 years ago, He said: “Speak to the house of Jacob, and tell the sons of Israel” (Exodus 19:3).

The “House of Jacob,” the sages explain is a reference to the women; “the sons of Israel, or children of Israel” refers to the men (Exodus Rabbah 28:6). In other words, GOD was saying, Speak to the Women First!

Exodus Rabbah 28: Excerpt from Sefaria.org

“…So you shall say to the house of Jacob” (Exodus 19:3) — these are the women. God said to Moshe, speak to them of the general matters [literally: heads of things] that they are able to hear. “And tell to the children of Israel” (Exodus 19:3) — these are the men. God said to Moshe, say to them particulars of things that they are able to hear. Another explanation: why were the women first? Since they are keen with mitzvot. Another explanation, so that they could accustom their children to Torah.”

As my students are primarily from a Christian background, this point needs to be made clear at the onset in order to set the perception aside that the majority of Christian women have of feeling overlooked or disregarded in scripture. I assure you, that belief only comes from the traditions and teachings of man (not the traditions and teachings of GOD), that have overlooked, under-reported, and/or misrepresented the role of women in scripture.

Getting back to the language of GOD in His Scripture, the Rabbi’s were quite aware of this fact and taught everyone accordingly, that when GOD spoke of the two Houses, one as Jacob and One as Israel, that He was speaking of the women as being from one House, the House of Jacob, and the Men of the other.

So, to the Women… “May GOD’s Word, in regards to His recognition of you on the pages of scripture, forever settle the dispute.” He has always acknowledged our importance in His Divine plan. We have just been taught this point incorrectly, or not at all. But GOD is Faithful. Exodus 19:3, is just one example of GOD making it known, of the integral role women, play in the Kingdom.

Studylight.org presents a synopsis of at least 8 Christian Commentaries that do not identify that women are being referred to in the discussion that GOD is having with Moses in Exodus 19:3. So, your point is completely justified… that for many centuries and barely even in the present day, are the significant incidents in scripture brought to light, when GOD is positioning women at the forefront of His Plans.

Present the torah to the Women First...

So why did G‑d give the Torah first to the women? As you can imagine, there are many viewpoints on this subject. The Midrash offers several explanations. One supposition is that, “Women are more ‘religious‘ than men, i.e. women have a higher propensity to be more devoted to GOD than men.

We only have to look around in our churches today, and we still find that women outnumber men in the pews; We can also look to the New Testament and find that it was the women who possessed a keener understanding and insight as to how to care for the anointing. The Rabbis and Sages inherently understood that GOD was recognizing a special quality in the nature of women that they were being called to take note of for themselves. So their collective insight was left them with a determination that, if you get women to agree to accept the Torah, the men will follow GOD too! (that estimation contains so much truth to it, on so many levels).

However, there’s always another way to look at a situation, correct? According to Rabbi Tachlifa of Caesarea, it’s the other way around—the women are the rebellious ones, so GOD’s commandment was given to teach them that the women have to be won over first: The Rabbi’s reasoning was… “G‑d said to Himself: When I created the world, I commanded Adam first, and only then Eve was commanded, with the result that she transgressed and upset the world. If I do not now call upon the women first, they will nullify the Torah.” (Exodus Rabbah 28:2). This too, is certainly within the realm of plausibility.

GOD could have used this expression to make a distinction between the men and the women, as some suggest because women are in charge of the House(1). It could be just as plain as that. In any case, the language, House of Jacob, refers to the women in scripture. It’s important to note that GOD’s language on the matter, does not undermine the purpose of either women or men.

Over and above all the reasonings that one might suppose for GOD’s decision, the case remains, this is how he wanted things done; Speak to the House of Jacob first….. This may appear to be a small matter, from a western point of view. But in scripture, details matter. “Every Word of scripture is given by inspiration of GOD… ” (2 Timothy 3:16).

Man is a critical and central figure in all of creation. Man is a conqueror, but not as we suppose in secular terms. Man’s role in creation is to conquer and banish the earthly/spiritual darkness and bring down light from the heavens into the earth. Woman nurtures that light from the heavens and makes it manifest in the home. She extends that light as a covering to family and community, and the world.

Woman was Created in the Garden…. The Garden of GOD is Like Home

This in fact, should remind us of the Garden Experience. Man was created outside of the Garden of Eden; Woman was created inside the Garden. It stands to reason that woman’s natural desire is to seek Godliness from within the home, from within the Garden…. family and community first. Man. being created outside the Garden, operates in two realms; the world and the Kingdom (GODs Garden). His assignment to conquer darkness, man pulls down & constrains the anointing over the world. Woman, his helpmeet, has the ability to double man’s strength in the spiritual realm. Together, they overcome the kingdoms of this world and constrain the anointing over the territories GOD has given them in the spirit.

Both of us, are integral to the Creator’s plan: our mission in life is to bring G‑d into the world (man was created for this assignment) and to make the world a home for G‑d (the woman’s specialty); to vanquish darkness (male), and to uncover the light implicit within the darkness (female).

We see this dynamic in action in the lives of Abraham and Sarah. Abraham, the Chariot of GOD, brought GODs light into the world and offered the hospitality, care and covering of GOD to his neighbors, even the strangers. Sarah extended that hospitality, care and covering, by making everyone at home in their house. Together they cared for the travelers and strangers.

Abraham brought them the Word of GOD and Sarah helped ensure that everyone understood it, through demonstration and application of the word in the home. Effectively, teaching the people how to make GOD’s Word manifest within the home. For these reasons, the Tabernacle is modeled after Sarah’s home.

Of course, we can each operate in each others assignments. But, how much more efficiently would we be able to work together, if we specialized in and perfected our expertise in our spiritual assignments, as is our priority for the purposes of the Kingdom of Heaven?

Personal Testimony:

Everyone that has served in ministry with me and has ever prayed with me in intercessory groups, knows that whenever we are having difficulty breaking through the Heavens, I will step outside the room and ask the first male I see, even a five-year-old if necessary, to come in and agree with us in prayer. Many times, this would be an usher that was in the sanctuary early to set up. Just the agreement of the man of prayer makes quick work of any and all obstacles blocking the anointing. Even the prayers and agreement of a small male or female child.

*The power of children in prayer is incredible, invaluable and under-utilized. They are virtually an untapped resource in prayer. Their clean hands and pure hearts should not be overlooked. They truly, bring down the Clouds of Glory. I strongly recommend, praying with children, especially when adults at your left and right are too filled with doubt to operate in the capacity of absolute unwavering agreement of faith. When I need something to happen right this minute, and a great push is required, I do not hesitate to grab-a-grandchild and pray! When time is of the essence, tell them what the prayer request is… I highly recommend it.

When men pray, they operate in a level of strength that I relate to the level of strength they have in the natural. Their voices operate on a different level of authority, a level of headship. Meaning their voices contend with spirits in other realms. I’ve witnessed this happen so many times, that I cannot help but agree with the Rabbinic teaching, that men were created to overthrow darkness. It’s just their specialty.

That being said, we need each other in prayer. Men to do their job and women to do theirs. Women have been given the power to crush the head of the serpents from the beginning, to drive nails like Jael through the temples of the adversary. We are relentless in prayer over our children, families, and friends. If there is a cause that is unjust, anywhere in the world, we will not let GOD go until the blessing is released. You know who you are in prayer! Regardless of what the world may say or what opinions are held. The anointing you carry is all based in the Word of GOD.

Your Prayers Are Not Just For Today!

Some may read these words and suppose that I am saying women do not have the strength in prayer that men have. I am saying that women possess a different kind of strength in prayer. We have only to look at the Matriarchs in scripture, whose lives bear witness to the type of persistence and dedication in prayer that is required in order to bear fruit. GOD always had the intention of answering prayer, but He is also grooming the Matriarchs for they type of fight they have to have in them, in order to defend and cover the children of Israel in faith and prayer, not just for today, but to speak into their futures for generations to come.

What we lack as intercessors is the power of agreement. We are not always praying with the right person, who is able to walk with us in the realms of the spirit in complete agreement for the power of GOD to be made manifest, for the situation at hand. We have our Gehazi’s that we have not let go, or have not sent them back into prayer until they see the vision that we see.

Anoint the Women with the Words of This Commandment First!

I believe that GOD had all this in mind when He commanded Moses to give the torah to the women first. Women will construct a home for prayer. Give this commandment to them and my tabernacle shall be built up with prayer before even the foundation is laid upon the ground.

Men have their battles to fight in the Heavenlies, let them break up the darkness… but give them a helpmeet… a woman to nurture the light of torah… to fill the house with the light of GOD, to raise up the generations to know My Name, to cover their children and husbands at the gates on the battlefield, to meet them on the battlefield, having dressed them in spiritual garments before they ever left the home… and they shall deliver many battles, without defeat.

Speak to the House of Jacob……

GOD Never Overlooked the Power of His Women in the Word. Give GOD the Praise!

  1. Furthermore, Rabbi Yosei said that he always spoke euphemistically: In all my days, I did not call my wife, my wife, nor my ox, my ox. Rather, I called my wife, my home, because she is the essence of the home, and my ox, my field, because it is the primary force in the fields. Shabbat 118b:10 (sefaria.org)

A PLACE WHERE GOD’S PRESENCE CAN MEET YOU…

And he called the name of that place Bethel: but the name of that city was called Luz at the first. Genesis 28:19

And he called the name of that place House of GOD: but the name of that city was called ‘Light’ at the first. Genesis 28:19

A few questions have come up regarding “getting into a place where the anointing dwells”.

You have to create a place for the anointing, or allow to designate one.

Is there one place in your home that you can dedicate to the Presence of GOD? I have a friend who had a nice size walk in closet for her and her husband’s use and that actually became her prayer closet! (I hope she post a comment on this blog so that everyone will know how sincere I am being).

Laura adorned her closet with comfy pillows against one wall of the closet, underneath her dresses. She had a pad of blankets on the floor, with her bibles and books and I think I remember a CD player for praise and worship music.

She owned a beautiful 4 bedroom home, with plenty of nooks and cranny’s, but her personal prayer retreat became the closet, and she could be in there for hours.

In one home I had the coziest little bathroom. There were 2 baths and just me, so the guest bath became a place of solitude. I loved the position and placement of the room, the windows, the view, the tile and molding. It was actually all quite nice. It felt like a luxury bath/suana at a really nice hotel. I owned a sofa that used to be positioned at the end of my bed. It was made of pine wood (a nice aroma) and I always filled it with nice sized, soft pillows and moved it to my spa like bathroom at that time. I could be in there for hours praying.

Another time, I fell head over heels for a little bench at a Presidential Museum, in the garden area. It was so secluded, hidden away in a nice little corner where few visitors ever walked. I used to go there, when I wanted an outdoors garden atmosphere that my concrete garden condo never provided.

I’ve chosen private-never ever used balconies, private prayer walks along a selective path at a dedicated time each day.

These days, I hide away in my bedroom–the compfiest place of all- ever! Where I’m surround by all my books and pillows and comfortable blankets, in a room that captures the sun and blocks all the outside noise.

I have another friend, that owns a business where she sees patients on a private individual basis. There are no other people present during their appointments. Because of the secluded, one on one nature of my friends business, her place also doubles as a place of prayer in between appointments. The decor is meticulous, from the pleasant aromas, the 5 star personal service, you feel special, cared for and it is like, you are the only person in the world that matters.

Her customers refuse to leave the place and will stretch out their time in her spa for 2-3- 4 hours if she does not stop them. (Next customer is coming folks!)

Iv’e had special places –my own personal possessions–at the beach for the occasional emergency- this needs to happen today by any means necessary– kind of places for prayer!

Which, miraculously, always seems to be cleared of people whenever I HAD to get there for a personal emergency discussion with GOD. This is my bursting down the door, kung fu fighting anyone who dares try to stop me- I MUST SEE THE KING–kind of appointment– A Divine Appointment with GOD – My MOED- on whatever day of the week it is required!

GOD ALWAYS Answers me at the Beach! It’s a special agreement that we have.

What do all of these places have in common?

Seclusion, privacy, peace and tranquility. Customized atmospheres. Minimal foot traffic, if any. Each dedicated to a specific, controlled use. Clean, organized, inviting, no tv’s, no radios, no internet, no outside noise, no common usage whatsoever. No confusion, no arguments, no bad/profane language, not even a secular book of any kind.

Pleasant and peaceful colors, scented candles, no common or profane conversations or communications… silence, selective communication or only prayer, praise and worship.

Find a place, that you can dedicate to the anointing as if it was the temple itself. Once it was my living room, because no one in the house ever spent time there. I guess it was for decoration purposes only, until it became a place for the anointing. Then everyone just wanted to sit in it. I had to redirect them to other places of interest! (This is not for you, people!). I said that with love, of course. 🙂

Take your best, whatever you have and place it there for the King. Even if it’s only you and your bible. Make the place your own. When Heaven sees you at The Place, the Heavenly Court will recognize your intentions, and all of Heaven will come down and grace you with the anointing.

This becomes your secret place. The place where GOD will meet you, there. It could be library (some have an adorable quiet, unadulterated atmosphere). It could be a broom closet in your home. It just has to be set apart for the anointing.

The more consecrated, dedicated time you spend there in love and thanksgiving (just sheer appreciation and dedication), the more you will see of the Presence of GOD. The more you pray, praise and worship there, the more you will come into contact with the Power of GOD.

This place can become so powerful that people who don’t know GOD, will feel the Presence of GOD. Company will start to confess things that you did not even ask or want to know. People will welcome prayer, be moved to tears, people will want to stay, people that curse will stop. It’s amazing what you shall behold in this place!

Find Your Special Place at the Beach, the Bathroom, the Balcony, the Garage, the Closet, the Garden… Find Your Place!

Pick a place and just make it The Place… Make wherever you are The Place!

I can be nicely laid out, but it doesn’t have to be. Plain is absolutely beautiful and GOD will reside with plain. It’s certainly His Favorite place. God just wants to be in the company of His most personal “treasured’ possession… You!

So the next time, when the angels see you headed for the beach… they will just turn toward the direction of where ever your enemies are located, and say,

“We Got This!”

It’s called the The Place of GOD’s Presence

And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord: Genesis 19:27

And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him. Genesis 22:3

Then on the third day Abraham lifted up his eyes, and saw the place afar off. Genesis 22:4
And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. Genesis 22:9

And he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place, and put them for his pillows, and lay down in that place to sleep. Genesis 28:11

But unto the place which the LORD your God shall choose out of all your tribes to put his name there, even unto his habitation shall ye seek, and thither thou shalt come: Deut. 12:5

ELUL, ON THE 8TH DAY OF PRAYER…

Dwelling… in The Secret Place of Prayer

Today’s reading is Psalms 91-98 for August 27, Thursday.

As all blessings upon blessings would have it, wouldn’t you know it would be on the eighth day of praying the Psalms, that we begin with Psalms 91!

Awesome how counting down the Psalms together through Prayer worked out!

As I pray this Psalm over every friend, relative, visitor to the blog and every enemy who peeks in for a look, know that on the 8th day of Prayer it’s not only a day to rejoice, it’s a special day ordained for us to claim the victory With both hands!

Today By Providence…. We Are Leading Off Tonight in Prayer With The Psalm of Victory!

For those Mighty Men and Women of Valor, (You know who you are) that will read the 1st verse of this Psalm and say in their heart… “that does not apply to me, I don’t dwell under His shadow….“
Please know, that our tabernacle is big enough to cover you in prayer.
You’re covered!

PSALM 91 – the p’shat

He that dwelleth in the secret place ( hiding place, secret, place of study and prayer) of the most High shall abide (remain, pass the night) under the shadow (shadow of the image of GOD) of the Almighty —-and my tent of Prayer.

The secret place, your private, personal relationship with GOD. Study and prayer are fellowship with GOD… The study of torah is the highest form of worship, (Babylonian Talmud, Shabbat 30a)

We will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: My God; in Him will I trust.

Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.

He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: His truth shall be thy shield and buckler.

Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;

Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.

A THOUSAND SHALL FALL AT THY SIDE and TEN THOUSAND at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Those who operate in double mindedness, disobedience, doubt, you will see them fall at your side… but not those who operate in the full strength of the anointing, shall not fall!

Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
You will see your enemies reward for their wickedness

Because thou hast made the Lord (YHVH), which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation (Our Dwelling Place, Our Answer, Our Response –to the World);

Everytime you read these prayers with us, everytime you recite them out loud, everytime you make mention of the Name of GOD, everytime you make time, even a moment, to say a prayer…The LORD will arise and go out before you… Just say His Name…

Just say, “I’m ready, just please go in before me…”, (He ALREADY Promised He would) Just say, “I’m ready to walk in these doors behind You”. (He ALREADY said you could)
Just say, “If GOD does not agree with with their decision, it can’t even be uttered, until they relent and say only what GOD has ordained over my life”. Just decree and declare, “I will suffer no judgement but GOD’s, – no matter who you see with your eyes or hear with your ears. There will be no judgement, until they submit and agree with GOD. Just say, “GOD Let’s make this phone call… and send your servant, ready to perform your will concerning me, can answer my call”

It’s time to trust HIM, to know when to go in, when to come out, when to make the call, when to not push, not get anxious, when to be still,

Ask, “Who in this place is a servant of The Most High GOD?

During this time—-WE AGREE, NOT TO ENTER INTO ANY BANNED BATTLES—-

It’s time to trust GOD, with all your heart and all your soul and all your might. Give them Strength LORD to walk by faith and not by sight. Impart upon them the spiritual level of courage that transcends courage in the earthly realm.

Jesus is praying for you, that your faith not fail!

Intercession is occurring for you on earth, right now, as it is in Heaven!

YOUR TWO OR MORE, are here– agreeing in this moment, about all matters concerning you!

Move out, Move forward…. MOVE —ONLY under the anointing of prayer!

10 There (Where prayer is) shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.

11 For He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

12 They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

13 Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet.

Enemies of your soul

14 Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name.

Call Him; El Shaddai (The GOD Who Overpowers), El Elyon (The Most High), YHVH (Adonai, Hashem), Yeshua HaMeshiach,

15 You shall call upon me, and I will answer You: I will be with You in trouble; I will deliver You, and honour You.

There’s a shift here… GOD is now talking, taking over the Prayer, saying, “I will be with you in trouble! I will deliver you, and honor you!” THANK YOU, LORD

16 With long life will I satisfy you, and shew you my salvation.

Your beloved ones, shall see Your salvation… Yeshua Ha Meshiach

All those with me in prayer LORD, all those you have given me to prayer for, they are dwelling with me in prayer in this tent, in our secret place of prayer and study, our place of contemplation, thanksgiving, and rejoicing.

Honor each soul, richly LORD, bestow honor upon them as never before, may they testify of Your Graciousness, Kindness, Charity, Love and Peace. May they begin to rehearse their testimony now, see their trials and tribulations come to a standstill. May they see those set in place to oppose them, removed, reassigned; reversed. Escort their confessions of faith through out their territory, by angelic assistance. For everyone of your people, shall overcome by the Word of their testimony and by the blood of the lamb.

We are carrying Your Word with us through every place that the soul of our foot shall tread in the Month of Elul, Your Word is all we have, it’s all we truly own, it’s all we really need…

Come for Your Word in Us… to Perform it!

Amen.
