21 DAYS- THE ESSENTIALS OF SPIRITUAL WARFARE

JUNE 30, 2021

In the prayer and message entitled 21 Days – Prophecy According to the Order of the King, you saw that scripture revealed that the mighty men of David operated from the strength and advantages of their prophetic giftings. But, we also know that the military arm of the Children of Israel were not numbered with the levitical priesthood. It was forbidden to do so.

REMEMBER… The levites were not to be counted in the military census.

NUMBERS 1: 45-50

45 So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

46 Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

48 For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying,

49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

This is significant because it opens up our understanding and leads us to major revelation.

1. WHEN GOD SAYS SOMETHING TWICE… PAY CLOSE ATTENTION

It was so important that Moses understand that the levites are not to be numbered with, “all that were ready and able to go forth to war” that GOD places special emphasis on this point by saying it twice. Scripture is not repeating itself to be poetic. GOD wants us to hear something powerful.

So we should be asking ourselves, why is scripture making this point to draw our attention to the fact that the military is operating in the prophetic? Their not levites, why are they prophesying with song and sound?

David’s Military system is not based on military skill and might only. Even those in David’s army had attributes of prophecy operating through them.

2. Let’s go back and look at this from the beginning…. 1 Chron 12: 1, 2, 8, 15-18,

12 Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish: and they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war.

They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin.

And of the Gadites there separated themselves unto David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle shield and buckler, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the roes upon the mountain

15 These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

16 And there came of the children of Benjamin and Judah to the hold unto David.

17 And David went out to meet them, and answered and said unto them, If ye be come peaceably unto me to help me, mine heart shall be knit unto you: but if ye be come to betray me to mine enemies, seeing there is no wrong in mine hands, the God of our fathers look thereon, and rebuke it.

18 Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

21 And they helped David against the band of the rovers: for they were all mighty men of valour, and were captains in the host.

22 For at that time day by day there came to David to help him, until it was a great host, like the host of God.

3. KEY Observations:

  • They came to David. David did not recruit them. They separated themselves unto David, right before he became king.
  • Multitudes defected from Sauls Kingdom to join David at Ziklag.
  • They were the elite fighting force of the nation of Israel.
  • Even the brethren of Saul. Men of Sauls own family are joining David because they see what GOD is doing.
  • Notice that Amasai, Chief of the Captains was a prophet. (Amasai’s name is based in the Hebrew root word amac, which means to carry a load, burden. He is a burden bearer of the tabernacle).
  • The language shifts from calling the mighty men that came to David, captains of the band (gedud ) to princes (sarim).
  • The mighty men of David became like the host of GOD. A reflection of the hosts of Heaven on earth.

The identity and characteristic of David’s military is more angelic like… they war like the Host of Heaven. The elevation of their spiritual identity is identified by their name change. No longer a band, the are likened to the hosts of GOD. They now personify qualities GREATER THAN military might.

They perceived that they were engaging in something more powerful and of greater importance than physical warfare. They were engaging in spiritual warfare while they fought the enemies of GOD.

As you see in scripture, it was forbidden to mix the men of war with the Levites. Yet, you witness another dynamic happening here. David did not see them as men of war. David perceived them as the host of GOD. David’s army had the attributes of prophecy operating within it. As skilled and formidable as the mighty men of David were in physical warfare, they were as highly skilled in the arts of spiritual warfare.

1 Chronicles 12: 32

32 And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do; the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their commandment.

33 Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, fifty thousand, which could keep rank: they were not of double heart.

The weapons of their warfare were no longer carnal as they had been under Sauls leadership. They became mighty to the pulling down of both physical and spiritual strongholds. Understanding the times (Issachar), Not double minded, expert in all spiritual and physical instruments of war (Zebulun). We know this because scripture also teaches us that they were men of prayer, praise and worship. Men of understanding, insight discernment. These were their primary weapons, their most essential weapons of war.
Amen.
